Purple and Paws Every dog has his or her quirks. Some dogs hate vacuums while others don’t mind them; some dogs love full-body massages and others can’t stand them. Today I’m going to talk about Socks’ main quirks. They are:
-He Hates When You Touch His Paws
My family’s previous three dogs, Cleo, Misty, and Patch, never minded if we touched their paws. Socks, however, hates it. Sometimes he’ll start limping while we’re on a walk but if I try to see what’s stuck in his paw, he pulls away and growls. This is not a cute quirk as one day he might possibly have a serious injury that I need to look at. So I’ve invested in a muzzle in case it’s ever needed.
-He Hates When You Scratch His Backside
Twice now when strangers have been petting him, Socks snaps or growls when someone touches the area around his butt or hind legs. I never touch him back there and I have no idea why he’s so sensitive, especially because, again, my family’s last three dogs had no issues with us touching that area.
-He Opens Doors
Well, he used to open doors. When I first brought Socks home, he didn’t like it when I had to go out and leave him and would open the door leading into the garage, presumably to follow me wherever I was going. I locked the door every time I left for a few months but eventually he understood that I would come back and stopped. I can’t remember the last time he tried to open a door.
-He Dislikes Intimacy Between Humans
If anyone tries to hug or kiss me, Socks gets between us and growls or barks. I’ve read that this is because he thinks I’m being attacked. My mom does not appreciate this quirk of Socks’, as you can imagine. Luckily, he’s gotten better about allowing affection and isn’t quite as huffy when it happens.
-He Dislikes Male Labs
In our training class he and another dog, a male lab, would always growl and bark at each other. There’s also a male lab in our neighborhood we see quite often during walks who Socks doesn’t like even though that dog has done nothing to him. He just has a bias against them for some reason.
