When I was looking over my posts from last year, I noticed I’ve written about my worst dog mom moment. So I thought I should write about my best dog mom moment.
But as I sat in front of my laptop, memory after memory of these last four years with Socks running through my brain, I quickly realized that I don’t actually have a best dog mom moment. Instead, I have moments. One of which happened today.
I met my best friend at a park in Scottsdale (as we do almost every week) and I brought Socks with me. As we stopped to let him drink from a dog water fountain, a little girl and her father were walking by. The little girl said, “Look, daddy, a doggy! Can I pet him?” and the dad told her to ask me. So she asked me if she could pet my dog and I said yes. The little girl approached Socks, hands out, and he immediately sniffed them then gave her face a quick lick. She giggled, patted his head and back, then skipped off to join her father again.
And I was so proud. Socks is great with strangers, kids especially. I’ve had many approach me on our walks and ask if they can pet him. He is always so sweet with them. He’s never bitten or growled at anyone (it helps that all of the kids who have come up to us are polite and gentle with him). Even though I know his placid behavior isn’t entirely thanks to me, it makes me so happy when he behaves well around other humans (and dogs).
He also had a few meet and greets with other dogs at the park, including an off-leash dog, which can sometimes make him antsy. But not today. He was a perfect gentleman our entire time at the park.
So in conclusion, pretty much every moment with my beautiful boy counts as a best dog mom moment.
