If only we could take our dogs to work every day. While some companies do allow pets in the office, the reality is that most pet parents can’t take their dogs to work and must either leave them at home or enroll them in doggy day camp. If you’ve decided to take your dog to camp, how do you go about picking the right one? Here are a few tips and tricks for finding the best camp for your pooch.
Ask Around
Just like any time you decide to try a new thing, the best way to find a good doggy day camp is to ask your friends and family what camps they use. You’ll get a much more in-depth look and description of a camp from a client’s point-of-view than an owner’s. You can also go online to check reviews, although this method can be a bit iffy.
Try Different Camps
If you have the time and the patience, take your dog to a bunch of different camps to try them all out. Some camps are kennel-free and let dogs roam around at will. Others keep dogs in their kennels on and off during the day. What’s important is figuring out which structure your dog thrives in. Some dogs love romping with other canines and other dogs prefer spending quiet time alone.
Listen to Feedback
Another important tip is to listen to employees about how your dog is behaving. Maybe your dog is anti-social and snapping at other dogs. Then it’s probably time to rethink day camp and look into a dog sitter who can visit your dog at home while you’re at work. If your dog is thriving, however, that’s a good thing and means he or she is ready to start camping on a regular basis.
Finding the doggy day camp that fits your pooch’s personality can take some time, but it’s worth it in the end.
